Parts of a Tower Crane
Tower cranes enable the construction industry to build some amazing structures. These cranes have been designed to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes provide the way to lift and move tools, building parts and materials around a construction location. There are a few different parts that assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes different pieces of construction equipment.

The tower crane base is usually made from a steel unit. The base of the unit attaches to a custom pad made of concrete. This set-up provides the structure with stability. Overall, the construction has to be well engineered and constructed so as to operate at optimum safety.

The mast of the tower crane provides height to the equipment. The mast is made of connected steel parts. The amount of sections determines the height of the crane. Normally, a tower crane has a design which allows the mast to grow during construction by adding more parts as the building process continues. This way the height of the crane could be specified, making sure that it has enough height to carry out the needed work safely and efficiently.

Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is situated at the top of the mast. This unit houses the machines and the motor that allows the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machinery which allows the mast to grow. The top climber sits just underneath the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams inside the top climber allow the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.

The term "boom", refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made up of individual steel parts that are attached together, extending out from the top of the slewing unit and parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the bottom that could extend the length of the boom. This trolley has the hoisting device.
