Calgary is the largest city in Alberta Province, Canada. It is located in the south of the province, around eighty km east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. Calgary is considered a metropolitan city that continues to retain its traditional culture of hockey, football, bars, hotel saloons and night clubs. It has also been called "Nashville of the North" due to its passion for country music. There are many events and major festivals within Calgary city including the Calgary International Film Festival (film festival held annually within Calgary, Alberta, Canada for ten days during late September and early October), FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival, Greek Festival (attendees could sample Greek music, cuisine, and dance, usually performed in conventional clothes), Wordfest Banff-Calgary International Writers Festival, the Calgary Fringe Festival (street performances, theatre performances, visual arts display, film festivals, and some live music), Expo Latino (yearly festival, typically held towards the end of August in celebration of the Latino culture), Calgary Folk Music Festival, Summerstock (young post-secondary and high school students from all over Canada perform a play in Olympic Plaza), and Calgary Gay Pride.

Calgary has several great parks for its visitors and residents to enjoy. The parks in the downtown area consist of: Beaulieu Gardens, Central Memorial Park, Eau Claire, Century gardens and Connaught Park. The parks located in the southwest consist of: Baker Park, 12 Mile Coulee, Bowness Park and Bowmont Park; Parks in southwest include: Clearwater park, Battalion Park, Edworthy park and Douglas Fir Trail; parks in southeast comprise: Carburn Park, Beaverdam Flats, Centenary Park, and Elliston Park; Parks within northeast comprise: laycock park, Big Marlborough Park and Bottomlands Park.

The largest contributors and industries to Calgary's GDP is the oil and gas trade. The city is home to businesses like for instance EnCana, BP, Imperial Oil, Suncor Energy, Transcanada and Shell Canada. Other big businesses that make Calgary their home consists of Shaw Communications, NOVA Chemicals, CNRL, Telus, Nexen, Shell Canada, and Dow Chemical Canada.
