After spending many years working along with his brother to establish their crane manufacturing company into a leader of the industry, John L. Grove chose to retire. John as well as his wife Cora celebrated their retirement by setting out on a cross-country trip utilizing their recreational vehicle. After that journey, JLG Industries, Inc. emerged and became the global leading producer of specialized material handling machines and mobile aerial work platforms.

During the R.V. trip, John spent a lot of the time talking to prior business associates that the Groves stopped to visit along their journey. When they were visiting the Hoover Dam, tragically, 2 workers were accidentally electrocuted on scaffolding.
